Shawn Corey Carter (born December 4, 1969), better known by his stage name Jay-Z (sometimes stylized JAY Z), is an American rapper and businessman. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Fort Minor listed him as one of his most influential rappers, even before meeting him personally.

Collision Course[edit]

Linkin Park's first contact with Jay-Z was during the summer of 2004, when Jay-Z and MTV contacted Linkin Park with the interest of doing a mash up song. Mike Shinoda sent Jay a demo of "Numb/Encore" to which Jay-Z replied, "Oh, shit!" In a short time, the project turned into a six song EP, Collision Course.

The Roxy Show[edit]

A secret poll placed on the Linkin Park Underground dispensed tickets to a free surprise show in The Roxy in the Los Angeles area, July 18th, 2004. This unveiled the Collision Course project and this is the show that is featured on the DVD that comes packaged with Collision Course. Due to a lighting/filming team mixup, Collision Course had to be performed twice in the same show.

2005 Shows[edit]

Jay-Z performed with Linkin Park on the Music For Relief show in Anaheim, February 18, 2005, in support of the tsunami crisis in Asia that started in late 2004. He and LP performed the last six songs on the setlist as the entirety of Collision Course. He joined Linkin Park on their only other show that year as well, in Live 8, also performing Collision Course songs with the band.

Fort Minor's Executive Producer[edit]

Mike Shinoda enlisted Jay-Z as an executive producer for Fort Minor's 2005 album The Rising Tied. Executive Producer meaning he did not have any involvement in the production of any Fort Minor songs, but gave feedback on them in the course of their creation. He is credited as Shawn Carter on the back cover of the album, below the track listing.

Rock Phenomenon[edit]

Jay-Z's songs have been featured on the 2006, and the 2007 re-issue, remix album Rock Phenomenon, which is hosted by Mike Shinoda. Jay-Z's "99 Problems" from The Back Album has been in a mash-up with Red Hot Chili Peppers's hit song "Give it Away". And "Dirt Off Your Shoulder", also from The Black Album has been in another mash-up with Marilyn Manson's version of "Tainted Love".

Projekt Revolution 2008[edit]

Jay-Z toured again with Linkin Park on the European leg of Projekt Revolution 2008, performing part of "Numb/Encore" and "Jigga What/Faint" near the end of the show. One such performance is seen in LP Underground 5.0.

Other tours[edit]

Jay-Z appeared on rapper Eminem's Anger Management Tour in the 2000's. He had toured with Eminem for The Home & Home Tour from September 2 through to September 14, 2010, with his own setlist of the performance throughout the tour before the end of the tour.
